Idioms

Children aren’t some kind of language learning machine that works methodically through the most common nouns and verbs. They pick up funny little expressions, too. Here are some that CJ picked up from me:

  • “Pretty cool.”
  • “Down the hatch.”
  • “All weird.”

And from her mother:

  • “Two seconds.”

Standing at a water fountain, she thinks “Take a sip!” is about the funniest thing that’s ever been said.

And lately she’s started to say things that she picked up who knows where. Like this:

  • “Take a seat. Take a load off your feet.”
