When I was a boy my father told me the story of Milo of Croton, who lifted a calf every day as it grew so that eventually he could lift a full-grown bull.
I’ve never had a calf, but when my daughter CJ was born she was 8 1/2 pounds, which struck me as pretty manageable. Eventually she’ll be 130 pounds, but let’s take it one day at a time.
CJ is 25 pounds now, which is a fairly standard weight for a dumbell. I’ve been curling her over the changing table and counting to ten. A couple of weeks ago she started counting after me.
Today I realized that I was counting after her.
